Summary on goodreads:
In a future world, Vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.
Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die or become one of the monsters.
Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.
Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.
But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.
Ok so I bought this book 4 Karina in the hopes she would like, she is a tough reviewer. So happy that she loved it! If it passed her test then this book has gotta be amazing!
This book was amazing. It was a little bit like “twilight”, but very little. Allison was a very strong character not only physically but emotionally. My favorite part of this book? “ it used to be a “school”, a place where kids like us gathered every day in huge numbers to learn” While reading the book I kept forgetting they never had a “normal” life so that part made me chuckle. Allison was very smart too. She knew the importance of an education and I was surprised that she chose to be what she hated most.
Throughout the whole beginning of the book she just rants about how awful the “blood suckers” are. But it made me very curious of Kanin at first I honestly thought Kanin was like the prince escaping or something. To find out he was the cause of the rabids (which I think are the equivilant to zombies) was the icing of the cake. I was mad he just left Allison to fend for herself, but it was Allison’s stubborn fault for running off to Stick.
I didn’t like Stick. He was too needy, a very weak character, and Rat was just a bully. I didn’t want Lucas to die, I was kind of hoping he would end up with Allison. And then I wanted Zeke (I loved Zeke he is such a pure, kind guy) to end up with Allison, and Allison to rip Ruth’s heart out.
Sadly Allison was left alone which actually made the story all the more better. Jeb just got on my nerves. Maybe you had to be a little ruthless when it came to leading but he was too stubborn and strict. I hope there’s another book where she finds Kanin and Jackal. Maybe goes back to Zeke? I just love how loyal Allison is.
I give this book a 5/5 feathers. I hope you read it and I wont say anymore because I feel like I already said WAY too much.
